В20 Plenary Session Within B20 Summit Framework

June 20 - B20 has held its plenary session as part of the B20 Summit framework. The Summit entitled ‘В20-G20 Partnership for Economic Growth and Employment’ is taking place in St Petersburg.

The plenary session was entitled ‘Transition to New Mode of Economic Growth В20 Priority for 2013’ and moderated by the В20 Chairman and RSPP President Alexander Shokhin and the Executive Director of the World Economic Forum Robert Greenhill.

Speaking at the plenary session were: VTB Bank Board Chairman Andrey Kostin, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov and OECD Secretary General Angel Gurría.

To quote Angel Gurría: “B20 offers a new language, a new signaling system to the global leaders. They’re eager to find out about your priorities, so please provide good advice”.

Apart from the incumbent B20 chairman, the plenary session was attended by the other two members of the Troika, Alejandro Ramirez (the 2012 chairman, Mexico) and the future 2014 chairman Richard Goyder (Australia).

Richard Goyder said the format chosen for the Russian B20 presidency appealed to him personally. “Russia’s presidency has preserved the continuity of B20 work while expanding it in a number of directions”, Mr. Goyder said.

Topics offered for discussion included recommendations prepared by the seven В20 task forces for the G20 leaders covering the following areas: investment and infrastructure; anti-corruption; financial system; trade; innovative development; job creation and investment in human capital; and, last but not least, the efficiency of the G20/B20 dialogue.

The commentary emerging from the Summit will be reflected in the White Book – the final version of the B20 proposals for the G20 leaders concerning key economic challenges facing the global community.
