Russia, India and China (RIC) view the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as a highly promising cooperation venue, especially considering India's intention to become a full member of the SCO. "Russia and China have reaffirmed their support on this issue," Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said after a meeting of the three countries' foreign ministers in Beijing, China.
The RIC foreign ministers discussed preparations for the SCO and BRICS summits, which will be held in Ufa, Bashkortostan, on July 8-10, 2015. "We are grateful to our partners for their support of Russia's Presidency and the initiatives we plan to prepare jointly for these meetings," Mr. Lavrov said.
Minister pointed out that the RIC countries are unanimous in their efforts to assist the development of a stable, fair and safe democratic system of international relations based on the primacy of law, equal partnership between states and respect for the UN Charter and principles. "This is especially important in light of this year's celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazism and militarism in the World War II. We must never forget the tragic events of that period and must continue to firmly stand up against claims to global leadership, the glorification of Nazism and the revival of racism, racial intolerance, xenophobia and extremism," he said.
Summing up the meeting results, Mr. Lavrov said: "We have had an open and substantive discussion of a wide range of regional and international issues. The meeting confirmed the coincidence or closeness of Russian, Indian and Chinese positions on the global situation and on ways to further develop trilateral cooperation in current conditions. All of this has been reflected in our joint communique."
