RSPP Vice President Dr. Marina Larionova: EU and EAEU need to enhance cooperation in such areas as standardization and technical conformity, trade facilitation, investment and digitalization

RSPP Vice President for International Relations Dr. Marina Larionova attended and addressed the Expert Discussion “EU-EAEU: is there potential for developing interaction?” in the framework of the Gaidar Forum on 17 January 2018.

In her statement Dr. Marina Larionova emphasized that despite serious difficulties in the political sphere between Russia and the EU, the European Union is one of the most important trade and economic partners for our country. Russia is interested in developing cooperation in the areas beneficial for the Russian economy even though in the selected spheres. It is important that business continues cooperation in many areas, including that ones of the Eurasian Economic Union`s competence, such as standardization and technical conformity, trade facilitation, investment and digitalization.

“Cooperation in the standardization and technical conformity sphere directly influence the international trade. Russian business and RSPP continue to develop engagement with our European partners in this sphere, in particular by means of organizing joint events and projects,” – Dr. Larionova said.

As regards of cooperation in digital economy, RSPP and German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations established in 2017 “German-Russia Initiative for Digitalization (GRID)” aimed at supporting Russian companies and bodies in elaborating and implementing their strategies in the digital sphere.

According to Dr. Marina Larionova, a formation of a EU-EAEU permanent dialogue and project engagement with participation of governmental authorities, business and academic community as well as use of existing platforms created de facto by business in recent years, in particular the Eurasian Economic Forum and German initiative “on a Common Economic Space from Lisbon to Vladivostok”, that becomes Eurasian, can be possible solution.
