RSPP Shokhin, Mordashov Speak at EEC Advisory Board Session

MOSCOW - RSPP President Alexander Shokhin and Head of the RSPP Committee for Integration, Trade & Custorms Policies and WTO Alexey Mordashov spoke at the 2nd Session of the Advisory Board for Interaction between the Eurasia Economic Commission and the Belarus – Kazakhstan – Russia business community, chaired by EEC Panel Head Viktor Khristenko. The session concentrated on fine-tuning the customs legislation of the Customs Union and customs regulations in general.

Alexander Shokhin stressed that the three countries needed to consolidate their stance on and beef up the debate on the open-ended questions where there’s still polarization between the governments, businesses and the EEC. “We consider it a priority that the next few months see a raft of regulation to guarantee successful implementation of all the basic agreement establishing the EEC, and we therefore need to give the Advisory Board a steer toward those issues which constitute the foundations of the Customs Union”, the RSPP President pointed out.

In his turn, Alexei Mordashov noted that all the members of the Advisory Board shared a common interest. “We all of us do realize that the practical steps required to best deal with the slew of challenges in spheres such as customs and goods and services cross-border movement we’re faced with have been handed off to the EEC level. The Commission already has a dedicated task force fine-tuning the Customs Code. The business communities of the three CU nations expect that the task force will incorporate the key underlying principles in its work, first and foremost, representation of the business communities as experts and members of mediation panels”.
