RSPP President Alexander Shokhin gave a speech at the plenary session of the B20 Kick-Off meeting within the Chinese presidency held in Beijing on January 26, 2016.
In his speech Alexander Shokhin commended the theme of the G20 China Presidency ‘Towards an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy’ and emphasized that innovations and structural reforms are key drivers for long term economic growth. Alexander Shokhin noted that the B20 should consider setting a Task Force on Innovation within the China B20 Presidency. Alexander Shokhin also emphasized that innovations should be a cross-cutting issue in the work of all B20 Taskforces.
Alexander Shokhin expressed his hope that the representatives of B20 from different G20 members would be invited to G20 events, including Sherpa’s and working groups’ meetings and ministerials to increase the G20-B20 engagement effectiveness.
Alexander Shokhin invited the participants to attend a special B20 event to be held by the RSPP jointly with the B20 Chair within the Chinese presidency – the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 16, 2016 with aim to extend the reach of B20 to the business community from non-G20 economies and emerging economies.
B20 Kick-Off meeting included Taskforce Breakouts which introduced the structure of B20 China taskforces, released the list of taskforces Chair, Co-Chair(s), Network Partner, Knowledge Partner, and presented proposed priority topics and timeline of each taskforce, two panel sessions and plenary session with attendance of senior government officials of China.
The business representatives and experts of the G20 countries discussed the role of B20 and G20, expectations on how B20 China can contribute to an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy. Priorities and key events of B20 China in 2016 were also presented at the event.

The B20 Chinese presidency established five Taskforces on Financing Growth, Trade and Investment, Infrastructure, SME Development and Employment which will elaborate the recommendations to the G20 Leaders. The B20 summit will be held on September 3-4, 2016 in Hangzhou on the eve of the G20 Leaders` summit.
The B20 Kick-Off meeting was held in the historical building - the Great Hall of the People which is China's center of political, economic, cultural and diplomatic decision-making.
