President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain confirmed his country's intention to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and thanked Russia for its support in this matter in an interview with Sputnik. He also reminded his audience that the decision to launch the expansion procedures would be adopted by the SCO Summit in Ufa, Bashkortostan, in July 2015.
Currently Pakistan, along with Mongolia, India, Iran, and Afghanistan, is an SCO observer state. In September 2014, Pakistan and India officially applied for full membership.
