Russian government has given the go-ahead to RSPP Bureau member Mikhail Prokhorov’s project to build the country’s first hybrid car manufacturing plant ever. The planned hybrid cars, nicknamed Ё-mobile after its future manufacturer, the Ё-Auto venture, will come in three body styles: sedan, hatchback and delivery truck.
The joint venture between the Onexim investment group, headed by Prokhorov, and the Belorussian truck manufacturer Yarovit plans to start mass production of Russia’s first hybrid car in mid-2012. The biggest of the five projected plants will be built in a St. Petersburg suburb.
