A main priority of Malaysian ASEAN Chairmanship will be an establishment of the ASEAN Community

Starting from January 1, 2015 Malaysia has taken over ASEAN chairmanship from Myanmar. Malaysian Chairmanship will be held under the topic of “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision” and concentrated on establishment of the ASEAN Community, characterized by greater political and security interaction and engagement, a single market and production base, with free flow of goods, services, capital investment and skilled labour and a caring society, focusing on social development, education and human resources development, public health, culture and information, and environmental protection. ASEAN Community will be based on three pillars of cooperation, namely the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).

ASEAN is the cornerstone of Malaysian foreign policy due to its geo-political significance and economic relevance to the country. Malaysia intends to continue to work within ASEAN to achieve peace, security and prosperity in the region.
