A Bilateral Russia-Turkey Roundtable Took Place on the Margins of the “Business Twenty” Conference

Russia – Turkey roundtable was held in Ankara on the sidelines of the international “Business Twenty” (B20) conference on September 4, 2015. The participants discussed how trade and economic relations between the two countries could be lifted to a new level. In particular, the debate focused on implementation of the initiative to increase bilateral trade turnover to USD100 billion by 2020 - the decision agreed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2014.

Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), and Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) opened the debate.

Alexander Shokhin emphasized, that successful development of Russian-Turkish business cooperation requires high quality regulation, that ensures investment protection. In this regard, the negotiations on an Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey on Services Trade and Investments, aimed, inter alia, at ensuring a high level of protection of mutual investments, as well as eliminating the existing barriers in the framework of trade in services and investments, have the utmost importance.

The roundtable participants underlined that business cooperation between Russia and Turkey has a great potential, which is based on promising projects, such as the “Turkish Stream”, the construction of the 4 blocks with a capacity of 1,200 MW each at the nuclear power plants “Akkuyu” in Turkey.

In conclusion of the roundtable RSPP and TOBB signed the Action Plan for 2015 - 2016 years, aimed at strengthening the dialogue between the business communities of the two countries through the promotion of direct business contacts and support of joint projects implementation.

The Russian business delegation to the event included Vyacheslav Gorbatov, Head of the RSPP Sevastopol regional branch who also addressed the roundtable`s participants.
