6th Summit of Heads of State and of Government of BRICS was held in Fortaleza, Brazil

On 14-15 July 2014 the 6th BRICS Summit was held in Fortaleza, Brazil. The discussion covered issues of political coordination and global governance problems. The BRICS leaders adopted the Fortaleza Declaration and Action Plan. Other documents signed during the summit include Agreement on the New Development Bank and Treaty for the Establishment of a BRICS Contingent Reserve Arrangement.

The BRICS leaders emphasized that the 5th edition of the BRICS Business Forum provided “an opportunity for match-making and for in-depth discussion of highly relevant issues of the trade and investment agenda”. They welcomed the meeting of the BRICS Business Council and commended it for its Annual Report 2013/2014. The leaders encouraged the business communities of their countries to deepen dialogue and cooperation in the five areas dealt with by the Industry/Sector Working Groups. One of the key BRICS Business Council recommendations is “to support and facilitate the role of industrial associations in boosting Business cooperation amongst BRICS countries” (1.5.5).

The 5th BRICS Business Forum was organized by the National Confederation of Industry of Brazil (CNI).
The Business Forum recommendations to the BRICS leaders include simplification of visa processing for business travelers, reduction of non-tariff barriers such as technical and phytosanitary restrictions, elimination of obstacles to trade etc.
