On 16 March 2021 the RSPP President Alexander Shokhin attended a meeting of the organising committee for the 2021 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The attendees discussed the principal aspects of the preparations for the forum, including preparing the site and the city's infrastructure to host events in compliance with the Russian public health agency Rospotrebnadzor’s requirements, preparation of the forum’s business programme, the progress of the invitation process, and promotions for the forum. The forum is due to take place on 2-5 June at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The first deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and chairman of the SPIEF organising committee Andrei Belousov stated that safety and arranging comfortable access to the site will be a priority for the forum’s organisers.

The Presidential advisor and secretary of the SPIEF organising committee Anton Kobyakov said that the forum will be making even greater use of technology this year due to the demands of the present times: “The forum will be held in the traditional format with people in attendance, and it will also make use of modern digital technologies to allow events to be broadcast through its platforms. Foreign participants are actively expressing their interest in attending Forum events in person, and this format will be kept while maintaining compliance with all the safety measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection as per the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor and the World Health Organisation (WHO), with which we are in close contact. We are currently working on putting together the business programme for the forum. As is traditional, the programme will incorporate tracks devoted to the global and Russian economy, social issues and technological developments.”

Events due to be held on the margins of the SPIEF include the Russian Small and Medium-Sized Business Forum, the Youth Forum, SCO, BRICS and ASEAN events, a meeting of the B20 regional advisory board, a creative business forum and the Medicine Security forum, as well as events devoted to the Arctic and Africa and meetings in bilateral formats.

A number of events hosted jointly by the RSPP, Business Russia, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Russian Export Center, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Opora Russia are set to be held as part of the campaign to promote the SPIEF.
